The Amarillo West Campus originally consisted of 4 buildings in an industrial setting.  Our firm was commissioned to master plan and transform the existing into a new student friendly campus.  Parking was moved to the exterior and the buildings were tied together with open landscape and hardscape pathways between buildings making the campus more inviting and safe for pedestrians.  New building sites were planned for to give the campus a blueprint for the future.  As part of the West Campus revitalization, our firm also designed the Lecture Hall and Student Center and a large addition to the School of Allied Health.  The campus has seen constant growth and has followed the master plan established by our firm.

After a decision to reinstate athletics at Amarillo College in 2020, the Badger volleyball team needed a home. The existing Carter Fitness Center on the main Amarillo College campus has been renovated and updated to meet the NJCAA requirements for competition. The completely renovated facility includes new locker rooms, a training room, free weight and machine weight rooms and offices for the coaching staff and AC staff. A new 2 story full glass addition will house cardio space and functional training overlooking the adjacent park. The exterior of the building was re-imagined with colored aluminum panel accents and signage marking the facility as the Home of Amarillo College athletics and a source of Badger pride.  The new First Bank Southwest Center is scheduled to open early 2023.

This new state of the art research facility is used by both the School of Pharmacy and School of Medicine for medical research. The 3 story structure has a 10,000 sf basement finished out as a Vivarium, as well as office space on the first and second floors for the Principal Investigators and their staff. The research area is an open lab concept with centralized shared equipment allowing for maximum flexibility for the research teams.  This project marked a huge step forward for medical research in the Texas Panhandle.

The Texas Tech University HSC Family Medicine Clinic outgrew it’s current space in a local hospital building and had a desire to relocate to the TTUHSC Amarillo campus.  The decision was made to add a fifth floor was added to the existing School of Medicine and School of Allied Health building to accommodate the new clinic. The plan includes over 30 exam rooms with additional procedure rooms and support spaces for the doctors and residents.

A 165,000 square foot, four story structure with a full basement and penthouse. The facility consolidated the Amarillo Schools of Allied Health and School of Medicine into one academic and clinic building. Lavin Associates provided full architectural services on this building as well as doing the original master planning for the entire campus.

An addition to the existing Museum of the Llano Estacado made possible by the widow of entertainer Jimmy Dean, The Jimmy Dean Museum houses exhibit space for artifacts and memorabilia detailing his rise from poverty and obscurity in Plainview to become an influential entertainer and food industry entrepreneur. The new facility also contains a store for merchandise and serves as the new entrance to the existing museum.

Buff Hall was designed with the Super Suite concept consisting of 4 bedroom / 2 bath apartments.  The facility also featured several student support spaces including laundry facilities, small group study areas, and recreation space for community engagement.  The building features multiple 3 story atrium spaces tying the different floors together at their commons.  The building was designed to house 176 students.

For many years, West Texas A&M University has had a presence in downtown Amarillo with offices and classrooms in the Chase Tower. The programs have outgrown their current space and are now moving into the 4 story former “Commerce Building” in downtown Amarillo. Phase I involved the complete renovation of the exterior of the building changing the appearance and improving the envelope. Phase II finished out the interior of the building with new classrooms, student gathering spaces, faculty offices, and labs. The building opened in 2019 and gives WTAMU a strong permanent residence in downtown Amarillo.

The complete renovation of an existing 170,000 square foot activity center including Clinic, Locker Rooms, Health Club, Cardio-Theatre and the conversion of an existing Olympic size swimming pool to a Recreational Pool.  A new entry was added incorporating a state of the art climbing structure designed to model the “Lighthouse” formation at Palo Duro Canyon.
